FAST TRACK BLOKART COURSE
The exact content of each session will
be tailored to the ability of each group, but an overview of the
sessions is given below:
Session 1
AIM: To introduce the novice to basic
safe sailing practice
By the end of the session participants
should be able to:
- Sail across the wind on a beach
reach
- Steer comfortably and sheet the
sail in at the same time
- Turn to windward and stop
- Turn to windward and complete the
180 degree turn (tack). Resulting in ability to sail a
figure of 8
- Understand the passing and head on
approach of two karts
- Make a downwind turn (gybe) and
continue the opposite figure of 8
Session 2
AIM: To develop basic principles to
sail a course confidently and be able to safely assemble a
Blokart
- Construct a Blokart
- Tack and gybe at reasonable speed
- Sail to windward and beat a course
to a windward mark
- Sail on a broad reach and make a
gybe around a wing mark
- Sail a Blokart on two wheels in a
controlled way
- Stop the kart using the circling
method and the sail as a break
- Apply the use of apparent wind
Session 3
AIM: Explanation of the race and
safety rules to enable confident participation in racing
- Sail to arrive at the start line
on the clock
- Finish the race crossing the line
and clearing the course
- Sail close to wind and take a good
line
- Sail using the apparent wind and
gain the benefits
- Sail different courses (where
possible)
